The history of the company started in 1920. Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. was officially registered. That was actually the first name of Mazda brand. At first its plant mainly dealt with producing tools for machines. But it was eventually involved in auto manufacturing industry very fast producing its first ever model called Mazda-Go. Engineers created a 3-wheel truck, which was in high demand. In 1931 it was exported to China. The first Mazda model was manufactured until WWII.
After the war the company continued producing trucks and presented its first 4-wheel vehicle in 1958. It was Romper model. In spite of high popularity of company’s trucks, the brand was eager to build its first passenger car. That is why it established collaboration with NSU/Wankelcompany and started producing light but powerful autos. The first one was introduced to the public in 1960. It was R360 Coupe.
